Here’s a layout I completed a little bit ago of my boyfriend when we went to Hershey Park in June.
I had fun doing this page because I just took out my paint and gesso and did whatever I felt like. I just smeared the black paint and gesso with my fingers throughout the page. I also took a really pretty blue glitter glue, diluted it with water and splattered it throughout the page. I wasn’t sure what I was doing when I started working paint into the page but ended up liking it more once it dried. I really like to add mixed media elements to my pages. The rest of the page is pretty simple with some washi tape and a bit of layering behind the photo. Hope you guys like it!
I’ve been dabbling back and forth between multiple crafty projects. The main thing I enjoy is making 12×12 layouts but I’m also currently working on my Heidi Swapp Memory File album and a smashbook that I just started. I figured I’d share what I’ve worked on in my smashbook lately. It’s basically a book devoted to only Instagram photos. I do like smashbooks because it’s like Scrapping-lite. I guess what I mean is there’s already patterned paper so I don’t have to start from the ground up on a layout. I usually can scrap a page a lot faster because I won’t use as many items and make a page as detailed as I would for a 12×12 layout. Here’s what I’ve done so far for my smashbook:
I recently saw that Glitz Design was having a warehouse box deal on their website. The box cost $29.99 and is supposed to include a random assortment of items from their various lines and be worth over $100. I paid the $29.99 plus shipping and handling ($10). I recently got my box and was pleasantly surprised. It had 2 6×6 paper pads, various cardstock stickers, letter stickers, 12×12 paper sheets, and various other embellishments. Came out to be a nice little box of goodies.
If you like Glitz design, I’d suggest grabbing one of these box deals. I think the sale is still going on. I found out about it from their Instagram. You can purchase it from their website via Paypal or credit card.
I recently went on a bit of a shopping spree over the last week. I got stuff in bits and pieces but still got some neat scrappy products to work with.
I got these stamps at AC Moore. They were a dollar a piece so I thought that was a pretty good deal for wooden-backed stamps. Trying to build up my stamp collection.
This is Washi tape that I got from various places. Some of it is Recollections brand from Michaels but most of it came from AC Moore. They recently had their washi tape on sale for $1 a roll.
Here’s the paper pads I have recently grabbed. The one on the left is Maggie Holmes. I found this at Michaels and got it on sale for $11.99. The other is DCWV and had a lot of cute prints. The last one in the group is The Pier by Crate Paper. Couldn’t pass that one up for the summer. I got it at AC Moore with a 50% off coupon and ended up only paying about 8 bucks for it.
Shopping can be dangerous but I’m so ready to use all these things in my next few layouts!
With being in the midst of CHA, I have been perusing so many different blogs and checking out all the new collections that will be coming to stores soon. This is a really exciting time for scrapbookers! Heidi Swapp has some amazing new lines coming out for Christmas and a regular line. I’m still having fun with her last Memory File Album and I see she has a new mini one coming for Christmas.
Here’s a few pages I worked on for my album:
I’ve just been having lots of fun with this book and basically doing whatever I want. I guess I’m making it a book that just sums up my life. I titled it “My Wonderful Life in Pictures” and have just included things I love about my life: favorite music, foods, pictures from my job, etc. I just love the color scheme that she used to make the collection. It’s super girly and is full of great patterns. I’ll post more photos of my progress in the book as I finish more of it.
I haven’t written on my blog in a bit mainly due to dealing with a lot of stress this past week. I recently had to give a speech to 70 people at my job. I am absolutely terrified of public speaking so you can imagine I was literally thinking about this for weeks leading up to the event. The speech I gave was short but that didn’t make it any easier. It was for a special event at the zoo and they wanted a penguin keeper to just talk about the birds and our day to day job. I just had to keep reminding myself, people were there because they love the animals and wanted to hear what I do everyday and what it’s like to work with them. I made it through the event….I didn’t implode and needless to say, I felt like a ton of bricks was lifted off my chest after it was over. I did get to talk to a lot of cool people after the talk was over and got to share a lot of knowledge with them so that was fun. Aside from rare public speaking events, I adore my job. I get to work with animals which I’ve dreamed of doing since I was a kid. I get to feel like I’m making a difference on educating people about wildlife conservation and I don’t have to sit behind a desk. All positives for me!
Anyhow, I often make layouts that include some of the animals I work with. I don’t know if others view that as weird but I’m passionate about my job and I care a lot about them so why not include them in my layouts since I spend so much time with them and they’re so important to me? I guess I kind of view them as coworkers. I decided to show off two recent layouts I’ve done that include my “coworkers.”
Here’s a layout I did of the European White Stork that I work with. I like to throw sticks into his outdoor yard for him to work on nest building. Every time I do, he throws his head back and claps his bill in excitement before carrying off the sticks to work on his nest. I sprayed a doily with Heidi Swapp Gold Lame’ color shine so that it worked like a stencil on the paper. The rest is pretty simple: some Thickers, a few random paper choices, a home-made watercolored tag, vellum, enamel dots, and washi. This was the first time I’ve added glitter to a page. I’m not sure what I think about it yet. I also need to find other ways to add my glitter to a layout. I’ve bought tons of it when I first started scrapping and really didn’t know what to do with it and still don’t!
The next layout is a picture of me holding a skunk from my old position at the zoo. I used to work in the education department and work with all the animals that went out on grounds to educate the public. These animals were a lot more hands on because of this. This cuddle session was the way we got the skunk to be more comfortable with handling. He really seemed to enjoy the snuggle sessions and would get very relaxed.
Thanks for checking out my layouts!
I did this layout in approximately 20 minutes the other night and that is extremely fast for me. I’m the kind of person that takes forever picking out all my paper and embellishments and then trying to decide what the heck I want to do with it all. I just decided I wanted something colorful and gravitated towards some Amy Tangerine paper I’ve been dying to use and from there, it didn’t take long. I just recently bought some Gesso and decided to experiment with that and just smeared it around on the page to add a little bit of messiness to the page. I like how everything came together. The page is a photo of me taken prior to going out for a night on the town with my boyfriend. I decided to scrapbook myself because it’s not super often I get to feel girly (I was wearing a dress that night). Being a zookeeper, it’s all too often I go to work in khakis and come home and put on some comfy clothes. Got to cherish those days where I feel a bit feminine. 🙂
Hope you guys like it. Happy Scrapping!
